Water Pollution in Dubrovnik

The water quality in Dubrovnik is awful. The river water is a dark bluegray color, with tiny bits of sediment floating on the surface. It stinks, it tastes bad, said Zoran Tadic, the manager of one of Duboviks restaurants. We can smell it from our tables. There are days when people dont want to eat there. We just go home. And we never complain about that. You cant even see the river any more. It looks like a lake. I have to walk up to my house every day to check if the city has changed its mind and allows us to continue using the water. But you can still drink the tap water here. In some places, they give the residents a small amount of free tap drinking water but for everybody else, you have nothing. No chlorine or ultraviolet rays. They do everything themselves. If you put a tap into your house, then you won be forced to buy bottled water as well. So what good does it do?You can visit Dubo Varo Water Park, which is situated at the bottom of the town, where the old water tower used to be. There is also an information center in English nearby. On top of this, there is the Dubaa River that flows over two hills. From the center of town along the road to Dubovec, visitors can get a view of these two mountains. These are not big hills, but rather little mountains, so their height is only about 30 meters. At first glance, nobody notices them. Then, gradually, those who did notice them find out that they are huge, towering above the other buildings in the area. Here, too, tourists can experience the view from a different perspective. For example, letyou climb up the hill toward the right side of photos taken near Dubovika park. While you are climbing, try to imagine yourself looking down on this place from above. Of course, all of you must agree that this would be quite impossible. Because the landscape is so flat. All of meadows and green fields stretch endlessly below you. This makes it difficult to look directly at Dubovo. Only if you turn your head slightly to the left will you realize that you actually come close to seeing the topography of Croatia.

Scale is from 0 to 100 while 0 represents the least water pollution thus the best water quality. A value below 50 is considered safe to drink in most cases.
